To give you a better idea of how we make it all happen, we've provided two case studies from current client firms.

Case Study #1

One of our projects is with a prominent Canadian firm. The firm needed a better way to bring on new clients and matters and looked to us for help.

The first task was to determine and document the existing manual process. This was essential to building the new system so nothing was omitted. The next step was to establish a list of features the firm wanted/needed to automate and improve their process.

Planning can take longer than the development process. But, this helps us establish a scope of the project to make sure it stays on budget. No code is written until the "Statement of Work" or SOW is completed. The SOW is important to ensure the software meets or exceeds the needs of the client.

Part of the planning process is to determine if the client requires new features or functionality. Some of the new features developed for this client were:

  • New Client/Matter Intake Wizards
  • Terrorist List Searching
  • Workflow Management Module

All these new features are available to existing and new Relay clients.

In the process of developing a custom solution, many other ideas of how the software could improve their firm were born. We have moved as many of the additional features to the next phase of development. Some of the new features in development are:

  • Interwoven Work Site Integration
  • Multi-Language Support
  • Records Management Integration

We are already talking about other processes at the firm that we can automate. We look forward to working with their staff as a development partner to help this firm be more profitable and successful.

Case Study #2

Another Relay project of interest was for one of the largest firms in New York City. This firm wanted to revamp the way they do Conflicts of Interest searching. Since this firm was one of the early adopters of our software, their conflicts staff has been invaluable in the evolution of our product.

They needed a solution that was capable of not only integrating with their Time & Billing software but also with their in-house Lotus Notes File Open System. After determining the scope of the project, we worked with the firm to develop a solution.

Relay takes the data directly from the Lotus Notes New Matter Sheet and automatically pulls the data into Conflicts, so there is no double entry of information. The NIMS information is also automatically updated.

In the process of determining what they needed for Conflict, they had an issue with screening existing employees from Matters brought in via a lateral hire. Relay developed a screening manger to set-up ethical walls, send notifications and capture digital signatures.

Our work did not stop at helping with Conflicts. We have also developed a PC Docs Integration; the firm wanted to view documents through their portal and was short of man power. We developed the integration in conjunction with the vendor developing the portal.

On another occasion, the firm was looking for a solution to capture back-office personnel's time. Relay developed a time entry application to enter time as a disbursement and store the data in People Soft for later export in their time & billing system.
